So I arrived here in Tampa earlier today, checked in to my hotel, dropped off my stuff at the convention center security, then went out for a nice dinner at Maggianos (mmmmm!), then Rick and I stopped off at a billiards/bowling place and shot a few games of pool.
So we played 4-5 games of pool, and, as you can see, Rick is the one doing the racking! So, need I say more!
We had a great time, and look forward to doing some lot viewing, and then setting up at the sow tomorrow, with hopefully lots of dealer to dealer deals!! Looking forward to a great show!!!

oops, hold on, hit return, and still have more to add - photos to follow! >>
Yeah, I know that place. They always give you about four times more than you can eat. I hope you had a fridge in your room.
Fun times, pun intended.

Since I'm here all week, I got an "Extended Stay" hotel so I have a full-sized fridge and yes, I definitely brought home some food from Maggianos to put in my fridge!

Awww, Charmy!
<< <i>You passed up bowling for pool???
Awww, Charmy! >>
Hey, Dennis, Though I certainly do enjoy bowling, I actually grew up playing pool, so... a girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, especially when it comes to keeping up with the boys!!!

<< <i>Besides doing a great job, and always seemingly picking up great newps, Charmy ALWAYS seems to have a great time at the shows she sets up at. It's as if she uses her status of being a dealer just to go 'from town to town' to enjoy a vacation, and do the coin thing as a secondary thought! >>
Well, I changed from a very different, more traditional office-type career to this one, so after I've worked hard all day doing coin wheeling and dealing, I certainly do enjoy all the fun after-hour events that being a coin dealer allows! I am very lucky and feel very fortunate that I am able to have the best of both worlds, that's for sure!

Not to upstage Charmy's thread, but even to this day whenever I travel to a coin show my dad still believes the main purpose of those trips is as you stated "to go town to town...to enjoy a vacation and do the coin thing as a secondary thought". For a lot of people it is hard for them to believe that dealers probably work harder and longer hours while on the road versus being at home. A night out is an excellent antidote to the stresses of working a coin show. Besides, if the traveling mostly for a vacation were really true, we wouldn't be taking so many trips to places like St. Louis, Houston (or anywhere in Texas) or even Baltimore. Believe me, St. Louis (or any other CSNS convention city) are some of the last places I would ever go for vacation. We'd be hanging out in Las Vegas or Hawaii a lot more.

Not interested in dealer to collector deals? Guess I'll just pass by your table tomorrow. Hope you have a nice show.
<< <i>We got to our room, and started walking to dinner. Saw 8 elephants walking down the street. It was weird. The circus is in town next door and they were headed into the building. >>
I saw them from my room too, there was a priest blessing them with holy water.
And Jerry, you will be happy to know that my focus will NOT be on buying Conders this trip so I'm sure Gary will have some amazing pieces for you to pick through; however, that being said, you never know...... sometimes they just call out to me and I can't resist!
Ricko, you're always welcome to join us - the more the merrier!!!
And Todd, where are the pics of those. er, um, elephants you said you saw, or was that just one of those "mushroom" induced elephant sightings?

I meant nothing demeaning, as I know it's hard work for dealers to travel, set up, deal/sell, break down, etc......I was only trying to point out that no matter where she is, she ALWAYS seems to FIND fun, regardless of whether the show is in a place that you'd call a 'vacationland', or in an armpit of a town. I really admire how Charmy 'gets it done', and still manages to make it seem easier than it is......AND still manage to find places to go, things to do, to MAKE it fun, regardless of where the show is!!
<< <i>others saw the elephants......there were some pretty excited kids on the street. >>
Back in the day we used to refer to that as a "contact high" ...
Charmy, I'll see you tomorrow. I am in Melbourne today, renting a car tomorrow for the drive over and will spend the day talking coins with all my numismatic friends.
Sugar magnolia blossoms blooming, heads all empty and I don't care ...
Kryptonitecomics is giving me one though, (THANKS SHANE!!) but the only day he's going is tomorrow, so that's the only day I'm going. I'll have to make it a good one!

I have worked many shows with Rick and Charmy, they are definatly the " In Crowd " when it comes to aftershow activities, we have always had a blast. Casinos, Bars, Restauraunts, whatever....there is always fun when you hang with the King and Queen of Copper !!!!!
Well, it's off to the casino tonight. The Hard Rock casino is huge!
Jack, We'll see you in Tucson in two weeks.
<< <i>Charmy I'm just leaving for the airport, please leave me a few toned Conders. >>
I will be looking for some new material on the BST from you after you overspend at FUN.....lol Have a great time!

But I agree with you about the vacation thingy I love the show though, one of my favorites!

AzJack....thank you for understanding what I was really trying to say...and for properly wording it the way I was trying to!! It's apparent there is always fun and games wherever they go!

Never knew Hard Rock had a place in Tampa. Thanks for the tip Rick. I had a blast there. Hope to see you and Charmy at the show tomorrow.
Before set up yesterday, we drove around so I took a couple photos of the Tampa skyline - it's a very pretty city, and the convention center is right by the water.
Rick and Karin are one aisle over from me (table 1031)
And Todd and Roger are directly across from me (table 1226)
And here's lil ol me waiting for all you forum members to stop by and say hi (table 1131)!

Not to derail the point of this thread, but enough with the harping on St. Louis!
Please keep us updated and include some photos if you can (coins are okay too but not necessary!).
Edited to add: Just viewed the last group of pictures. Very nice! Thank you Charmy!
<< <i>Dare I even ask the color of the elephants????? Cheers, RickO >>
Grey, I saw them too.
And, always a pleasure to see you again if only in pics.
Mike
Thursday after the show we went to a little pub called Hat Tricks not far from the convention center. I had brought with me a Lincoln collection another dealer had in an old Wayte Raymond album to take back to my room so I could grade and price it. I mentioned it to another dealer that was with us and he said, "break it out, let me look at it." So I did, and he ended up helping me price it right there at the pub, using the lights above the shuffle board game!
Friday was extremely well attended and quite busy, with lots of buzz for almost the whole day. I saw and talked with many forum members on Friday - too many to list (and I don't want to leave someone out)!
I bought some more pretty toned proofs and lots more collector grade Indian and Lincoln cents, and sold a ton of inventory as well - yeah! I also traded some coins to another dealer for a beautiful Swiss Chopard watch (I'm such a sucker for pretty jewelry)
My good friend Logan (Vams and More) who is sharing with Todd was extremely surprised when he received this well-deserved special award from the VAM club, so I had to snap this photo! (That's my booth mate Shelley who's husband sells foreign paper money.)
I don't think I even got to open my bottle of wine (thank you again Colonel Jessup!) until after 3 pm - but what an excellent bottle of wine it was!
A little OT, but I thought this was kinda funny. Someone saw the little handbag that I carry and said, "hey, that's you on the front of your purse!" Well, I had never even paid attention that the design sort of looked like me until it was brought to my attention! So what do you think?!
"Phew" was all I could say when the show ended on Friday! I love being busy, wheeling and dealing, and Friday was the busiest day I've had at a show in a long time! So then it was off to dinner! We went to Tappa Tinas for some wonderful Spanish food! But first, we had to have my newest favorite drink - an Irish car bomb (a shot of Jameson and Bailys plopped right into a glass of Guinness and then you drink it quick or the Bailys will curdle) - ummmmm!
Then we walked around the plaza off Channelside Drive, watched these artists create amazing paintings with cans of paint, listened to the outdoor band a little, had another Irish car bomb, and then ended up at Stump's Howl at the Moon. Wow, what a fun place!!
The piano guys had this dry erase board where they would write notes that people would give them as long as the note was accompanied by more money than the last guy who wrote a note - and they would write just about anything, some of which I cannot post here!
Rick requested the Rocky Horror Picture Show song The Time Warp, and this girl jumped up on stage to show everyone the moves....
Here's a group of "flapper" dressed girls that were having a great time too!
I can't even tell you what time we left that place, but I highly recommend it - they did a fantastic job playing and singing the songs and engaging the audience!
And here was our favorite breakfast place. Boy did we need a good breakfast after last night's partying! It is one of the tiniest diners I've ever seen, look how narrow the building is....
Though today was busy, it was nothing like yesterday, especially as some of the dealers begin packing up and heading home. I'll be here through tomorrow, so if you are still around, please stop by!
